Billy Hare is one of the key figures in the history of photography in Perú. He addresses the diversity and richness of the landscape present in Perú. Hare is a disciple of Minor White and Aaron Siskind. He has taught at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, the University of Lima and the University of Applied Sciences.

Hare founded the Department of Photography of the Gaudí Institute, the Center for Photography and Photo-galleries Sequence and El Ojo Ajeno. In 1992 he was awarded the Guggenheim Fellowship. His work has been exhibited in Perú and abroad both individually and collectively. In 1997 the Fundación Telefónica organized a retrospective exhibition of his work and published an extensive catalog "Billy Hare Photographs.”

Photography has been a means of knowledge for Billy Hare taking him to places that he would never have known otherwise ... “But I think there has been constant friction. I think that in every good photo —as in every good image— there is a friction, there is a clash between our conception of what should be and what is finally given in the image. And that's where something happens. What exactly? We are redefining it all the time. And that seems exciting to me and it also makes me feel alive. If I already knew the formula it would be a bit boring.”
